Muscles may be willing, but the brain has a mind of its own

Electrical engineers say that no matter how hard you try, making the perfect free throw, golf swing or pitch is impossible. The muscles might be capable, but the brain literally has plans of its own, trying to solve each repeated movement anew. The study, conducted by Assistant Professor Krishna Shenoy and researchers Mark Churchland and Afsheen Afshar, was published Dec. 21 in the journal Neuron.
