New parking permits on sale; current permits expire Aug. 31

The online application process for 2007-08 parking permits began Monday on the Parking and Transportation Services website, http://transportation.stanford.edu/, and the office is once again urging commuters to consider alternative modes of transportation before purchasing a parking permit.

The cost of a year-round "A" sticker is $603, an increase over last year's price of $552. The cost of a year-round "C" sticker will be $234, an increase over last year's price of $216. One-day parking scratchers will remain at $11 for an "A" and $4.50 for a "C."

Registration for the Commute Club alternative-transportation program starts on Sept. 1. The annual amount of Clean Air Cash per Commute Club member is equivalent to the price of a "C" sticker. So those who forgo purchasing a permit and apply for membership to the alternative-commute program may be eligible for up to $234 in Clean Air Cash or credit toward carpool costs. Some of the other Commute Club benefits include:

  • 12 free hourly car-rental vouchers;
  • Enrollment in Stanford's Emergency Ride Home program;
  • Subsidy of $200 per month for each registered Stanford vanpool;
  • Reserved parking spaces for carpools and vanpools;
  • Member-only gifts and prize drawings.
  • Current parking permits expire Friday, Aug. 31, and there will be no formal grace period, so permit holders will need to display their new stickers beginning Sept. 1. Those who apply online for a new permit or print out an application and mail it in with payment are advised that processing and delivery can take up to two weeks.

    Will-call pickup will be available at the transportation office, at 340 Bonair Siding, about one week after an application is received. Over-the-counter sales will begin Monday, Aug. 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Office hours will be extended to 6 p.m. on Aug. 30 and 31.
