Construction worker dies after falling
A construction worker died Thursday after he fell during renovation of the Stanford Stadium, according to a statement from Vance Brown Builders, the Palo Alto-based contractor overseeing the project.
“We are immensely saddened by this loss and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and numerous individuals that have worked with him in the past,” said Phil Capin, a construction-project manager for the company.
The incident occurred about 9:35 a.m. June 22. The worker fell roughly 23 feet, and emergency personnel were on site within 5 minutes, Capin said.
“This is a tragic event and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and co-workers,” said Alan Acosta, associate vice president for public affairs at Stanford.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
The renovation of the 84-year-old stadium began in late 2005 and is scheduled for completion by the middle of September.
