Two students selected as winners of medical school's Barbour and Blank awards
Two members of the Class of 2005 were recently chosen to receive two of the medical school's most prestigious annual prizes for students.
Felisha Rohan-Minjares, MD, was named winner of the Allen B. Barbour Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine. The award honors the late Barbour, MD, a longtime faculty member noted for his devotion to patient advocacy and patient-centered, humanistic care.
Rohan-Minjares was chosen for her "commitment to continuous self-improvement, meticulous care of patients and concern for the whole person." She will go to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque for a residency in family practice.
Graduating medical student Pejman Ghanouni, MD, was named winner of the Norman Blank Award for Outstanding Performance in Radiology or Radiology Research. The award honors the late Blank, MD, who was known for his exceptional clinical skills, vast medical knowledge and devotion to teaching medical students and radiology residents.
During his residency, Ghanouni plans on working with Sam Gambhir, MD, PhD, professor of radiology, and Brian Kobilka, MD, professor of molecular and cellular physiology and of medicine, to develop a means of imaging changes in adrenergic receptor expression induced by heart failure.
