Honors and Awards

LEE D. ROSS, the Stanford Federal Credit Union Professor, received a lifetime achievement award May 27 during the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in Chicago. Ross, a social psychologist, was awarded the William James Fellow Award for his contributions to the basic science of psychology. Ross is best known for the concept of "naïve realism," in which he argues that individuals often notice other people's ignorance and cognitive biases, but they fail to fully grasp that they also suffer from the same deficiencies.

RICHARD N. ZARE, the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science, was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on June 6. He is one of six foreign scientists elected this year, bringing the total number of foreign CAS academicians to 45.
