Setting the record straight on first Asian lab director

Your article (July 7, 2004) on Steven Chu becoming the director of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory stated that he is the first Asian-American to direct a national laboratory. This is wrong. Praveen Chaudhari, an Indian-American, has been director of Brookhaven National Laboratory, on Long Island, since April 1, 2003. Like Lawrence Berkeley, Brookhaven is a Department of Energy-funded lab.
