Stanford offers admission to 2,050 students from around the world

The university announced today that 2,050 high school students have been admitted to the Class of 2021 from a pool of 44,073.

Stanford University has offered admission to 2,050 students, including 721 applicants who were accepted last December through the early action program, the Office of Undergraduate Admission announced today.

Richard H. Shaw, dean of admission and financial aid, said the Class of 2021 was carefully selected from 44,073 candidates, the largest application pool in Stanford’s history. The admitted students come from all 50 states and 82 countries.

“We continue to be awed and humbled by the interest Stanford receives from outstanding young people around the world,” said Shaw.

“This year in particular we are proud of the intellectual strength and incredible diversity represented by this group. Over 18 percent of our admitted class will be the first in their families to attend a four-year college and, overall, this cohort of students reflects the diversity of our country and the world. These students have already had incredible impact on their communities, and we know they will impact the world in immeasurable ways.”

Under Stanford’s generous financial aid program, which the university expanded in 2015, families with total annual income below $125,000 and typical assets for this income range will pay no tuition. Parents will be ensured that all tuition charges are covered with need-based scholarships, federal and state grants and/or outside scholarship funds, so that the expected parent contribution is only for room, board and other expenses. Typical parents with annual income below $65,000 are not expected to contribute anything toward educational cost.

Stanford will be releasing its application and admission statistics only at the conclusion of the admission cycle, after all applicants have been notified, and will continue to do so out of respect for our prospective students and applicants.

Students admitted under the early and regular decision admission program have until May 1 to accept Stanford’s offer.
