Mapping the night sky

After two decades of work, scientists and engineers at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory are celebrating the completion of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time Camera, the largest digital camera ever built for astronomy. Once in place atop Rubin Observatory’s telescope in Chile, the camera will generate an enormous trove of data that will help researchers understand dark energy and other mysteries of the universe.
