Q&A

The Cantor Art Center’s director opens up about the evolving field of museology, art as a lens for understanding world problems, and what university collections can do that public museums can’t.

Say goodbye to Hello

Modeled after an ancient Greek column, but with a twist, the 15-foot sculpture Hello was created for Meyer Green by the international conceptual artist Xu Zhen. The sculpture was installed in early 2022 and soon became affectionately known among students as "the Churro." Xu Zhen was chosen by Stanford’s Public Art Committee to create the site-specific work for the Plinth Project, an initiative that places a series of temporary, commissioned public artworks in the location where the Meyer Library stood from 1966 to 2015. Take a look back at Hello's time on campus and stop by to wave farewell before it departs later this August to make way for the next installation.
