Stanford’s Peter Michelson is the principal investigator for the Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), launched by NASA on June 11. The orbiting observatory will study the gamma rays emitted by enormously powerful gamma-ray bursts, as well as pulses of energy from spinning neutron stars and strange beams of charged particles ejected from spinning black holes.
