Early exit polls predicting a John Kerry victory were comparable to the "halftime" score of a football game, not the final outcome. NBC News President Neal Shapiro says leaked exit polls gave false hope to Kerry supporters.  ABC News chief David Westin, on the afternoon of election day, said there was a wide disparity between exit polls and the actual vote in Ohio and Florida.   CBS News President Andrew Heyward said despite the gap, all TV networks accurately reported election results in 2004.  The discussion  at Cubberley Auditorium  Nov. 15 was sponsored by the Knight  Fellowships for Professional Journalists and was moderated by Richard Wald, a former executive at NBC and ABC news and now a professor of journalism at Columbia University.
