Djerassi honored for contributions to 'our common chemical heritage'

Carl Djerassi, professor of chemistry, is the year 2000 recipient of the Chemical Heritage Foundation's Othmer Gold Medal, awarded annually to "an individual who has made multifaceted contribution to our common chemical heritage through outstanding activity in such areas as innovation, entrepreneurship, research, education, public understanding, legislation or philanthropy." Receiving the award May 19, Djerassi was noted for his mastery as a research scientist, pharmaceutical innovator and novelist.
