Cyclists brave rain for Bike-to-Work Day

Bananas, muffins and bottles of water greeted cyclists braving drizzly gray skies as they headed to jobs on campus yesterday during the Bay Area's annual Bike-to-Work Day. Organized by RIDES, a nonprofit group, the event promotes cleaner ways to commute to work. Four "energizer stations" around campus handed out food and biking information to about 140 cyclists who stopped by from 7 to 9 a.m., says Margie Tellez of Parking and Transportation Services. Until May 19, commuting cyclists can register with RIDES at and enter a drawing to win prizes that include a bike tour for two in France. SR
