Photo exhibit to focus on depression

IN RECOGNITION OF MAY AS National Mental Health Month, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is displaying an exhibit titled "Depression: A Visual Journal of Healing and Transformation." The exhibit is in the lobby of the psychiatry building, 401 Quarry Road, and will be open to the public every weekday through the end of the month.

A collaborative effort of mother and son Ann and John Keiffer, of San Mateo, the works include poems and black-and-white photographs depicting the experience of depression. "Our intention has been to create a work that is respectful and honoring of both the suffering of depression and the deep and unexpected healing that can come from it," Ann Keiffer said.

Sponsors of the exhibit include the Mental Health Association of San Mateo County and the San Mateo County Mental Health Services Division, with funding from the Peninsula Community Foundation.
