Manager Forum tackles engaging employees who work from home

The event, live over Zoom, was hosted by University Human Resources and featured Stanford GSB professor Nicholas Bloom.

The October Manager Forum, hosted by University Human Resources, featured  Nicholas Bloom, Eberle Professor of Economics, Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and Professor, by courtesy, of Economics at the Graduate School of Business.

Bloom spoke to a  group of Stanford managers, live over Zoom, about the importance of goal setting and two-way communication and feedback. The recording of the Oct. 13 forum is posted in the Manager Toolkit on Cardinal at Work.

Manager Forums, which launched in fall 2020, are designed for Stanford’s people managers to connect, learn from each other, and review resources available to lead and support their teams during these extraordinary times.

The monthly forums highlight key employee and workplace-related topics. The first forum focused on increasing employee engagement during this time of disruption, and highlighted an employee engagement guide recently developed by several human resources leaders. That forum was guest led by Bob Sutton, Professor of Management Science & Engineering and, by courtesy, of Organization Behavior at the Graduate School of Business.

The November event topic is practicing gratitude and taking care of self on Nov. 18 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Managers are asked to share input about the topics they would like addressed in future forums. All people managers are encouraged to participate at no cost; registration is required through STARS in Axess and enrollment is limited to ensure breakout sessions are a size conducive to sharing.
