Walking the Cardinal Walk

The 16th annual Cardinal Walk was a hybrid event with some 2,300 Stanford employees gathering in Stanford Stadium for a walk to celebrate wellness and inclusion. University photographer Andrew Brodhead captured some of the day’s events.

It has been more than three years since the last in-person Cardinal Walk. Friends and colleagues who have been working remotely during the COVID pandemic were happy to see each other again.

Elizabeth Zacharias, vice president for Human Resources, welcomed the group to Stanford Stadium. This gathering of the Stanford community was a way to show how Stanford embraces diversity, advances equity, and cultivates inclusion.

Stanford Biobanking staffer Ashley Tiznado, takes a moment to fill out a note on what inclusion at Stanford means to her. The note, along with scores of others filled out before the walk, were posted so walkers could reflect and discuss IDEAL goals.

Cardinal Walkers strolled through the eucalyptus trees on their 1-mile stroll from Stanford Stadium around the Athletics District to the finish line near Maples Pavilion. The focus of this year’s walk was Stanford’s journey toward an inclusive and diverse campus where all feel respected, valued, and a sense of belonging.

The 16th Cardinal Walk brought together Stanford employees for a shared wellness experience, by giving us a chance to connect with each other. The event also included opportunities to connect with staff groups and learn how to improve inclusion and belonging in everyday interactions through the IDEAL Learning Journey.
