Seven Stanford faculty members elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Stanford faculty members are among the 250 new members elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, which honors exceptional scholars who discover and advance knowledge and who apply knowledge to the problems of society.

When announcing this year’s new members, Academy President David W. Oxtoby said, “We honor these artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors for their accomplishments and for the curiosity, creativity, and courage required to reach new heights.”

Daniel E. Ho – the William Benjamin Scott and Luna M. Scott Professor of Law in the Stanford Law School (SLS); professor of political science in the School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S); professor, by courtesy, of computer science in the School of Engineering (SoE); senior fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI); and senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR)

Gordon H. Chang – the Olive H. Palmer Professor in Humanities and professor of history in H&S

Sourav Chatterjee – professor of statistics and of mathematics in H&S

Michael C. Frank – Benjamin Scott Crocker Professor of Human Biology; professor of psychology; and professor, by courtesy, of linguistics in H&S

Harold Y. Hwang – director of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences (SIMES); professor of applied physics and of photon science at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory; and senior fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy

Christine Jacobs-Wagner – Dennis Cunningham Professor in the Department of Biology in H&S; professor of biology and of microbiology and immunology in the School of Medicine; and a scholar in the ChEM-H Institute

Muriel Niederle – Pauline K. Levin-Robert L. Levin and Pauline C. Levin-Abraham Levin Professorship and professor of economics in H&S and senior fellow at SIEPR
