Fantastic Negrito plays at Meyer Green

On Saturday November 12, Neighborhood N treated all students to food truck snacks and a concert by the Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter.

Neighborhood N hosted Oakland-based musician and activist Fantastic Negrito in a music and food-filled night at Meyer Green. Students sampled free chicken and waffles, dim sum, and tacos from local food trucks, and then grabbed seats next to the new Hello sculpture  (aka “the churro”) by international conceptual artist Xu Zhen.

Bike and pedestrian traffic was diverted around Meyer Green, and the sunken lawn was turned into a stage for a Q&A hosted by Ujamaa student leader Brittany Linus, with Xavier Dphrepaulezz, better known as Fantastic Negrito. Dphrepaulezz spoke about his meandering road to success in the music industry. “Don’t ask permission” when forging your own path, he advised.

Following the Q&A, Dphrepaulezz was joined by his bandmates for an electrifying concert that included songs from their newest album, “White Jesus Black Problems.” VPSA photographer Micaela Go captured the highlights.

The neighborhood councils look forward to putting on more all-campus events in upcoming quarters. Want to be involved in planning? Find out how here.
