Our current health orders preclude us from donating items and then gathering for assembly parties to give items to local charities, but Stanford’s legacy of giving remains strong. This year’s Cardinal at Work Cares: Giving back drive will be virtual. All are welcome to participate in service to our communities by participating in a compassionate act of your choice from wherever you may be.

This year, the Cardinal at Work Cares annual event has merged with BeWell’s annual Sharing Wellness event to broaden our impact. The goal is for all members of our community to participate in a way you feel most comfortable—you may wish to donate items, time, or money; acts of kindness with others in our communities can also be “ad hoc,” such as carrying the neighbor’s groceries in, walking a neighbor’s dog, or writing thank you cards to first responders or wildfire fighters.
In the launch of this year’s giving back campaign, President Marc Tessier-Lavigne and Provost Persis Drell shared a recorded message emphasizing the importance of continuing to find ways to help others in our communities, and that a pandemic will not stop our momentum. As he noted in his message, Marc stated, “We have an amazing history of helping the world be a better place, and we’ve shown that together, our impact can be profound.” Persis added, “We may be apart, but our spirit of giving transcends that which separates us.”
Virtual portal open so you can share acts of giving
A portal was created so that all community members can share your act of giving; you can post what you did and even include a photo to inspire others. The portal is open through November 20. A giving meter will tally all acts of giving that are recorded, and the goal for this first virtual giving event is to log 1,000 compassionate acts.
