Senate to meet at Anderson Collection at Stanford University

Members of the Faculty Senate will hear reports on the state of the humanities at Stanford, as well as an introduction to the Anderson Collection at Stanford University. They also will receive a guided tour of the collection when the meeting adjourns.

The Faculty Senate will convene Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Anderson Collection at Stanford University, which opened in 2014 and showcases one of the world’s most outstanding private assemblies of modern and contemporary American art.

Richard Saller, dean of the School of Humanities & Sciences, and Debra Satz, senior associate dean for the arts and humanities, will present reports on the state of the humanities at Stanford at the Feb. 5 meeting.

Jason Linetzky, director of the Anderson Collection, will present an introduction to the artwork, which features 86 artists and 121 modern and contemporary American paintings and sculpture.

The artwork is a gift from Harry W. and Mary Margaret Anderson and Mary Patricia Anderson Pence, the Bay Area family who built the collection over the last 50 years.

The members of the senate will receive a guided tour of the museum after the meeting adjourns at 4:25 p.m.

The Faculty Senate meeting will meet at 3:15 p.m. in the Denning Family Resource Center at the Anderson Collection, located at 314 Lomita Drive, next door to the Cantor Arts Center.

Discussion is limited to members of the senate, but members of the Stanford community may request to attend the meeting by contacting the Academic Secretary’s Office at 723-4992 or Trish Del Pozzo.
