Nature provides essential services – including clean water, flood protection, pollination, and heat regulation – that support food security and sustainable development, yet these benefits are increasingly at risk from environmental degradation.

Stanford’s Natural Capital Alliance (formerly Natural Capital Project) is addressing this challenge through its People, Planet, Prosperity (3Ps) initiative, working with 16 countries and three multilateral development banks to treat ecosystems as valuable assets that generate measurable benefits. This approach strengthens decision-making and encourages investments that support both communities and the environment, including among finance ministries and central banks.
