Stanford holds undergraduate tuition steady for 2026-27

Stanford will not increase undergraduate tuition for the 2026-27 academic year, the university’s Board of Trustees decided at its winter meeting this week.

Stanford will not increase undergraduate tuition for the 2026-27 academic year, the university’s Board of Trustees decided at its winter meeting this week.

Approximately one-third of undergraduate families at Stanford receive need-based funding covering the full amount of tuition, and nearly half receive some level of financial aid grants. Nearly 90% of Stanford students graduate with no debt.

For families who pay full tuition, the rate in 2026-27 will remain $67,731. Standard room and board charges will be $22,944, an increase of 3.5%, based on rising expenses.

“Stanford is committed to making attendance for undergraduate students affordable through generous financial aid, and we also recognize the value in controlling the growth of top-line tuition,” said Jonathan Levin, Stanford’s president.

Stanford’s financial aid program is designed to provide scholarships rather than loans. For the 2024-25 graduating students, 86% graduated debt-free. For the fall 2025 incoming class, the average university scholarship among those receiving aid was $69,415.

Prospective students can explore Stanford’s affordability through the Quick College Cost Estimator and other tools on the university’s financial aid website.

General graduate tuition will increase by 3%. For the majority of graduate students, their tuition will continue to be covered in full by their fellowship or research or teaching assistantship. Some professional programs may have different increases.

Detailed information on graduate tuition will be posted to the Student Services website later in the year.

Graduate student housing charges will rise by a weighted average of 3.5% for the 2026-27 academic year, with monthly rent varying by unit type and floor plan.
