University Communications invites submissions for the James S. Robinson Award for Undergraduate and Graduate Student Journalists at Stanford University.
Two awards of $1,500 each will be given to an undergraduate submission and a graduate submission for a single story or series of stories on a related topic by a Stanford journalist or journalists published in a Stanford-related print or online publication between Sept. 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019.
Applicants should submit examples of work that demonstrate superior news judgement, balanced reporting, a commitment to journalistic values and the ability to creatively engage the reader through clear and compelling writing. (A series of articles should focus on a specific topic, not a loose “body of work,” and should include no more than five articles.)
Applicants should include four copies of the article or series (if submitted on paper) and a 500-word letter describing the genesis of the article or series and the kind of impact it had on the campus community. Submissions should include the applicant’s name, address, phone number and email address and should be submitted in print or via email no later than Friday, May 10, 2019.
Mail submissions to The James S. Robinson Award, Attn.: Kate Chesley, Stanford News Service, 425 Santa Teresa Street, Stanford, CA 94305-2245
Or email them to kchesley@stanford.edu.
This award was established in memory of James Robinson, an award-winning journalist and former editor of Stanford Report, who died in 2004 at 44.
