When members of the Class of 2018 leave Stanford next week, many will leave something very special behind.

When members of the Class of 2018 leave Stanford next week, many will leave something very special behind.

Following a tradition that dates to 1896, graduating seniors have shared their treasured items, which will be installed in a time capsule and buried beneath the Class Plaque – a bronze “18” – near the west gate of the Main Quad.

Among this year’s treasured items: cloth leaves from the Stanford Tree mascot’s costume, a classroom clicker, seeds from campus trees, a well-loved straw cowboy hat and the key ingredient for boba tea along with a recipe.

University photographer Linda Cicero captured images of a few dozen examples of what will help explain the Class of 2018 to the future.
