Two Stanford Row houses available in 2020-21 academic year

The Office of Student Engagement has informed all leaders of Greek organizations about the availability of two Row houses and the housing allocation and application process. Housing offers will be made during Week 9.

Stanford’s Office of Student Engagement announced this week that two university-owned properties are available for occupancy by Greek organizations beginning in the 2020-21 academic year.

In a letter, Feb. 11, to leaders of all Stanford fraternities and sororities, the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) said that 1047 Campus Drive will be available this fall for three years and 664 Lomita Court will be available this fall for one year.

The housing allocation process involves two steps. First, interested Greek organizations must submit written application materials and documents, which include detailed explanations of each chapter’s values, culture and ability to fulfill responsibilities of operating a facility. The second step involves a panel presentation and dialogue during which chapter representatives will discuss their goals, priorities and initiatives, and how university-owned housing will enable their organization to make positive contributions to the Stanford community.

Any fraternity or sorority in good standing may submit an application as a chapter or in collaboration with other Greek organizations in good standing. The selection process will involve a five-member panel that will produce a rank order list of organizations that will be invited to select a house. Provost Persis Drell will review and possibly modify the list, before organizations select their preferred house, starting with the highest-ranked organization.

During the selection process, chapters that apply will be assessed on various criteria, including their ability to demonstrate a culture of collective responsibility and implementation of measures to hold members accountable for their actions, their ability to demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion, and their ability to articulate how they will enhance academic achievement and student learning. Each chapter must also explain how they will fulfill the responsibilities of operating a university-owned property, such as managing staff, finances, maintenance, occupancy and stakeholders.

Greek organizations were invited to an open house on Feb. 12 to meet current student staff and relevant stakeholders from Residential Education and housing operations. Interested chapters will have to submit an Interest Form by Feb. 14 and formal applications by Feb. 21. Presentations will take place on Feb. 24, 25 and 26, and recommendations will be sent to the provost on Feb. 28. Stanford will make housing offers to all applicants by Week 9.
