Dear Stanford community,

Today, I’m honored to start my term as Stanford president. I do so with the same sense of possibility I had when I first arrived at Stanford more than 30 years ago and an enduring belief in the excellence, innovation, and freedom that Stanford represents.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Richard Saller for his principled leadership over the past year. I’m also grateful for the continuing leadership of Provost Jenny Martinez. I look forward with enthusiasm to our partnership.

In the coming months, Jenny and I hope to speak with many of you about the opportunities before us. I have confidence in a future for Stanford that is ambitious in our dedication to learning, advancement of knowledge, and contribution to the world.
