The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) has announced that two Stanford Greek organizations have been selected to reside in two Row houses next academic year.
In a message March 11 to all Fraternity and Sorority Life leaders and alumni advisors, OSE said that the Chi Omega sorority will reside in 664 Lomita Drive, and the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority will reside at 1047 Campus Drive beginning next fall. Chi Omega will reside in its new residence for one year and Kappa Kappa Gamma in its new home for three years.
OSE announced last month that both university-owned residences were available to Greek organizations beginning in the 2020-21 academic year. Interested organizations had to submit application materials and present their goals, priorities and initiatives to a selection panel.
Chapters were assessed on various criteria, including their ability to demonstrate a culture of collective responsibility and implementation of measures to hold members accountable for their actions, their ability to demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion and their ability to articulate how they will enhance academic achievement and student learning. They also had to explain how they would fulfill the responsibilities of operating a university-owned property, such as managing staff, finances, maintenance occupancy and stakeholders.
“We are proud of all the Greek organizations that applied for housing, and we look forward to seeing how these two new housed Greek organizations will contribute to the campus community,” said Amanda Rodriguez, assistant dean and director of fraternity and sorority life in the Office of Student Engagement.
This week, OSE also informed Greek leaders that spring recruitment for fraternities and sororities will be postponed to fall quarter. The delay is a response to the university’s decision to move all course instruction online in the midst of the ongoing developments around the new coronavirus outbreak. Since the announcement, Stanford has identified three individuals who have tested positive for the virus in the area, including two people associated with Stanford Medicine and another on the main campus.
“The decision to delay recruitment was made in partnership with our Greek community keeping in line with our values prioritizing student safety and solidarity as a community,” Rodriguez said.
