Follow-up to Clery Act timely warning Sunday night

I am writing to follow up on the Clery Act timely warning that was sent to the community on Sunday night regarding a reported sexual assault on campus.

The safety of the campus and our community is our utmost priority. Stanford’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded immediately to support the reporting party and to increase campus security. This is why you have seen additional security personnel patrolling this week. Late Sunday night, DPS also initiated a comprehensive investigation.

We recognize the level of fear and anxiety following the Clery Act notification. In light of this concern, we want to share that DPS does not have evidence at this time that there is a threat to the community related to this incident. This determination is based on the information collected thus far by DPS – which includes considerable background information, multiple interviews, and neighborhood canvassing.

We understand that the community is eager to receive more information. However, DPS must work confidentially to ensure the integrity of the investigation. DPS continues to investigate, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact DPS at 650-329-2413.

We will continue to do everything possible to ensure that Stanford remains secure for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Chief of Police
