Faculty co-chairs of the Our Community and Engagement Beyond Our University steering groups talk about their process for sorting through hundreds of ideas and share some of the main themes that emerged.

Last summer and fall, more than 100 members of the Stanford community – undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, academic staff and postdoctoral scholars – formed into four groups that took on the task of reviewing more than 2,800 ideas for Stanford’s future submitted by people across the university community.

The four steering groups, organized around the areas of Education, Research, Our Community and Engagement Beyond Our University, produced white papers summarizing and framing the ideas that were submitted as part of the long-range planning process launched by President Marc Tessier-Lavigne and Provost Persis Drell.

Those white papers have now gone to the university’s Executive Cabinet for further review. The papers will be released to the campus community in early February.

Here, in the first of two videos, the faculty co-chairs of the Our Community and Engagement Beyond Our University steering groups talk about their process for sorting through hundreds of ideas and share some of the main themes that emerged. A second video on the Education and Research area steering groups will appear later this month.
