Vaden Health Center publishes new edition of Student Health Matters

Student Health Matters provides detailed information for students about caring for their health while at Stanford.

Vaden Health Center has published the 2019-20 edition of Student Health Matters, the annual guide for students about how to care for their health while at Stanford. With one edition this year for both incoming and returning students, the guide describes the university’s entrance health requirements, the university health insurance requirement, and all policies and deadlines regarding Cardinal Care, as well as services available at Vaden to all registered students at Stanford:

  • What’s new for the upcoming academic year
  • Understanding Vaden Health Center’s role in caring for students
  • Learning how to comply with the university’s entrance health requirements
  • Guidance for decisions that need to be made about health insurance and pertinent deadlines for the 2019-20 school year
  • Information on the eligibility requirements for the dependent health insurance plan

For students returning to Stanford in 2019-20, highlights include:

  • What’s new for the upcoming academic year
  • Understanding Vaden Health Center’s role in caring for students
  • Guidance for decisions that need to be made about health insurance and pertinent deadlines for the 2019-20 school year
  • Information on the eligibility requirements for the dependent health insurance plan
  • Information on Cardinal Care enrollment when students leave Stanford University

When reviewing the appropriate brochure, students are asked to keep several items in mind:

  • Deadlines for new students to submit the entrance health requirement forms are:
    • June 30 – Incoming freshmen
    • Aug. 15 – Incoming graduate or transfer students
  • All students are automatically enrolled in Cardinal Care at the start of their entry quarter each year. For students entering Stanford in Autumn Quarter, the plan year begins Sept. 1, 2019, and students wishing to waive Cardinal Care for 2019-20 must do so by the waiver deadline of Sept. 15, 2019.
  • Cardinal Care is an annual plan that begins on Sept. 1 and ends on Aug. 31 of the next year – students’ health insurance decisions made by the waiver deadline are binding for that year.
  • For students who choose to remain enrolled in Cardinal Care, note that coverage continues through leaves of absence.
  • For students who choose to remain enrolled in Cardinal Care and who confer their degrees either at the end of Autumn or Winter quarter, they can petition for early cancellation by Dec. 15 (Autumn) or April 15 (Winter).
