Stanford has been reaching out to more than 600 students who might be affected by the potentially catastrophic Hurricane Florence, which began pummeling the East Coast Friday.

Brenda McComb, interim associate vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, wrote via email to graduate students and undergraduates who live in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

In the letter, McComb expressed the university’s concern for their welfare and that of their families and encouraged them to contact Stanford if their travels to campus could be affected by the hurricane. In the past, Stanford has allowed students, for instance, to return early to campus to avoid potential weather delays.

Entering first-year students and transfer students are asked to contact Edith Wu in the New & Continuing Student Program office at (650) 725-3115 or edithwu@stanford.edu. Upperclass students should contact Lisa De La Cruz Caldera in Residential Education at (650) 454-9120 or lisadlc@stanford.edu. Graduate students are encouraged to contact Ken Hsu in the Graduate Life Office at (650) 723-8357 or kyhsu@stanford.edu.
