VanDerveer at 999 career wins and counting
The signs that TARA VANDERVEER is on the brink of making college basketball history are everywhere.
On the airwaves:
VanDerveer is one game away from joining a handful of Division 1 college basketball coaches with 1,000 career wins. When she reaches this milestone, she will join legendary University of Tennessee coach Pat Summit (1,098) and Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski (1,057, and counting).
“She’s the hardest worker in college basketball. She watches more video of opponents and ourselves than anyone else combined,” Chiney Ogwumike, former Stanford basketball star who now plays with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, told David Kiefer, Stanford Athletics assistant director for communications.
“Its hard to work hard every second of every day, but that’s the standard she demands and that’s the standard she lives,” Ogwumike added.
The next opportunity for VanDerveer to reach 1,000 wins will arrive on Friday, Feb. 3, when the Cardinal hosts USC at Maples Pavilion at 6 p.m.
