The Stanford campus in the rain

Photographer Andrew Brodhead wandered through the Stanford campus during a rainy winter day. His photographs reflect the relative emptiness of our campus because of the continuing pandemic, but also the beauty of the iconic buildings and sculptures reflected in rain puddles.

Space Lane by Linda Fleming is located in Encina Commons. It consists of large concentric steel rings that encompass four elongated cubes. When lit by the sun or streetlamps, the overlapping steel bars create shadows and patterns that become essential parts of this sculpture, suggesting dynamic movement in a static form.

The Papua New Guinea Sculpture Garden, located in front of Roble Hall, was a project by an anthropologist who worked in New Guinea and wanted to give back to the community members who helped him with his research. It features traditional painted posts used in the spirit houses of the Kwoma and Iatul people.
