Math faculty members earn silver medals in Beijing competition
Two Department of Mathematics faculty members were awarded Morningside Medals of Mathematics at the 7th International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians in August.
Professor LEXING YING was honored for contributions to the development and analysis of fast methods in scientific computing. ZHIWEI YUN, adjunct professor of math, was cited for contributions to the construction of motives with exceptional Galois groups. Both won silver medals.
The Morningside Medals of Mathematics recognize mathematicians of Chinese descent to encourage them in their pursuit of mathematical truth. Up to six medals—two gold and four silver—are awarded every three years.
