Debnil Sur to give student Convocation speech
DEBNIL SUR, a senior computer science major from Sunnyvale, has been selected to give the student address during the university’s annual Convocation on Sept. 20.
Sur, who will serve as a residential computer consultant in Roble Hall this year and is a member of the Stanford Debate Society, was selected as part of a university-wide application process. The selection committee includes representatives of Undergraduate Advising and Research, Student Affairs and University Communications. He will be the sole student speaker representing the student body in welcoming members of the Class of 2020, new transfers and their families.
Sur plans to share with new students his intellectual explorations at Stanford before settling on a major. He is interested in the intersection of artificial intelligence and the social sciences, with secondary research and academic interests in theoretical computer science and information systems.
The 126th Opening Convocation Ceremony, which is open to everyone, will take place at 4 p.m. on the Main Quadrangle. Learn more.
