Women’s soccer and volleyball and men’s water polo compete in NCAA championships
Friday is a big day for both the women’s soccer and volleyball teams, while Saturday is equally important for the men’s water polo team.
WOMEN’S SOCCER reached the NCAA College Cup for the sixth time in seven seasons and will play Florida State in the semifinals on Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Cardinal (20-1-3) advanced by beating Florida in penalty kicks on Friday after a 2-2 draw, extending its unbeaten streak to 11. The final, against either Virginia or Texas A&M, is Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
The WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL team (29-1) begins its quest for the program’s seventh NCAA title at home, as the squad earned the No. 1 overall seed and was selected to host the first and second rounds. Tickets are available online at www.GoStanford.com or by calling 1-800-STANFORD.
The Cardinal will play its first round match at 7 p.m. Friday at Maples Pavilion against CSU Bakersfield (16-14). Should Stanford advance, the team will travel to Ames, Iowa, for the Ames Regional on Dec. 12-13. The 2014 Final Four will be held at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on Dec. 18-20.
The No. 1 Stanford MEN’S WATER POLO team (25-3) begins its 2014 NCAA Championship in the semifinals against No. 3 USC (23-6) on Saturday at 3:12 p.m. The Cardinal is seeded second and the Trojans third in the event, which is being hosted by UC San Diego.
The water polo title game takes place on Sunday at 3:12 p.m. Stanford’s 25 wins are its most since the Cardinal went 25-6 in 2008 and finished as the NCAA runner-up.
