Srinija Srinivasan, former executive at Yahoo, elected to Stanford's Board of Trustees

Srinija Srinivasan, co-founder of Loove, a music startup in Brooklyn, N.Y., dedicated to  creating and promoting a new model for production, presentation and equitable distribution, was recently elected to the Stanford University Board of Trustees.

Srinivasan, a former executive of Yahoo, will begin a five-year term April 1.

"We are elated to welcome Srinija to the Board of Trustees," said Steven A. Denning, chair of the board. "She brings a unique combination of entrepreneurial experience in both technology and the arts that will be very beneficial to our board and our deliberations." 

Srinivasan joined Yahoo in 1995 as the Internet company's fifth employee. She stepped down as the company's vice president and editor-in-chief in 2010.

At Yahoo, she led a range of editorial and policy functions globally, including the organization and evolution of the Yahoo Directory. She oversaw network editorial standards and original content development, guided the company’s corporate responsibility arm and directed policy issues, including privacy and data use, advertising standards, youth safety, community guidelines and accessibility.

Srinivasan maintains homes in Palo Alto, Calif., and New York City.

Before joining Yahoo, Srinivasan was involved with the Cyc project, an artificial intelligence effort to build a database of human commonsense knowledge.

At Stanford, she is a member of the Council of the School of Humanities and Sciences. Before becoming a member of the Stanford Live Advisory Council, she served on the Bing Concert Hall Task Force.

Srinivasan, who earned a bachelor's degree in symbolic systems at Stanford in 1993, has been an active university volunteer. She has served on reunion committees and as a member of the steering committee of  "Think Again," a 12-city national tour sponsored by Stanford's Campaign for Undergraduate Education (2000-2005) and the Stanford Alumni Association. She also served on the New York Committee for Stanford Arts.

Srinivasan has supported athletics, the arts and undergraduate education at Stanford, including establishing the Srinivasan Family Undergraduate Scholarship Fund. (Her two siblings also graduated from Stanford.)

Srinivasan served as chair of the board of trustees of SFJAZZ for six years throughout the planning and campaign for the new SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco, which opened in January 2013.

In 2010, she was appointed to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, which elects and honors Presidential Scholars, a group of graduating high school seniors of exceptional talent and commitment to public service. (Srinivasan was a 1989 Presidential Scholar.)

Srinivasan is a 2000 Henry Crown Fellow of The Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C., and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
