Deadline for completion of sexual harassment prevention training for supervisors and faculty is Dec. 1

Stanford’s SHARE Title IX Office answers your questions about the training.

Stanford is committed to providing a campus environment free of sexual harassment and all forms of sexual violence, intimidation or exploitation.

The SHARE Title IX Office offers a range of programs to educate community members on issues of sexual violence and sexual misconduct, provide support in the wake of an incident, encourage reporting and investigate allegations of misconduct. The programs help to provide the entire community with the tools and resources to navigate sexual harassment in the workplace and on campus.

Stanford managers and faculty are required to complete sexual harassment prevention training every two years. Topics include illegal forms of discrimination, sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in our community, reporting obligations, campus resources, how to assist survivors and how to be an “upstander.”

Below are answers to some common questions about the training.

Who must complete this training?

The focus of this training is on faculty and supervisors. If you’re not sure if you have to complete the training, just login to your STARS account and look in your assigned trainings.

It seems like I just did this training. Do I really have to do this again?

Yes! Stanford takes seriously the need to prevent sexual harassment on campus and comprehensive training is the first step in reducing the incidents of sexual harassment in our community. Additionally, California state law (AB1825) requires that supervisors and faculty complete this training every two years (odd-numbered years). The good news is that the SHARE-Education team is working with a new vendor, Get Inclusive, to create new, customized content that meets the requirements of the State of California and that aligns with Stanford’s Harassment policies. We hope that you’ll find this training module provides fresh and engaging content.

Is there an option to do this training live?

Unfortunately, no. The live trainings take almost a year to develop and with pandemic-related disruptions, we are unable to offer live training this year. We will plan to offer live, in-person training again for the 2023 calendar year.

Okay, so how do I take the online training?

The training should automatically show up when you sign into STARS.

What’s the deadline for this training?

It must be completed by Dec. 1, 2021.

How long is the training?

It’s a two-hour session, but it doesn’t need to be completed in one sitting. The module will auto-save your progress (although, if you close your browser while a training video is playing, it will not remember where you left off in the video).

What about non-supervisory employees?

No need to feel left out! California state law (SB1343) requires that non-supervisory employees participate in similar training every two years. That training cycle falls on even-numbered years.
