Stanford celebrates Juneteenth

Stanford celebrates the bipartisan action by both houses of Congress this week, ratified with President Biden’s signature, to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

This important milestone commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. And it comes as our nation and our community are engaged in the essential work of confronting and addressing anti-Black racism and other forms of chronic racial injustice.

The university community is encouraged to take part in one of the Juneteenth events scheduled at Stanford, in the Bay Area and across the country in the coming days to celebrate this year’s Juneteenth.

At Stanford we join in celebrating the history and contributions of Black Americans, and in re-committing ourselves to pursuing the cause of equity and justice.
