Living in graduate housing, winter quarter 2021

The following information was provided by Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) in an email to new and continuing graduate students on December 31, 2020. It includes guidance that will help new students settle into their space, community and the campus; it may also be a useful resource for all graduate students in campus housing.

COVID-19 Safety

We strongly urge you to review and observe the university’s quarantine and COVID-19 testing guidelines.

The safety of our students, staff and the Stanford community is R&DE’s highest priority. For more information on how we all work together to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in your residence and in R&DE Dining or retail cafe locations, please see our COVID Health & Safety information.

Your R&DE Housing Front Desk has replacement supplies to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These include disposable face coverings, small bottles of hand sanitizer, or small packages of disinfecting wipes.

Campus Living

Dining on Campus

As a convenience for students observing the university’s 10-day travel quarantine requirement, R&DE has added a 10-meal option for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast – 10 meals – $65.00 ($6.50 /meal)

Lunch – 10 meals – $97.00 ($9.70/meal)

Dinner – 10 meals – $121.50 ($12.15/meal)

You may purchase these and other options here.

Grad students with an R&DE meal plan will be able to pick up to-go meals from Arrillaga Family Dining Commons and EVGR Marketplace, only, until February 8. This is to limit interactions among groups of students during the mandatory quarantine. After February 8, grad students will be able to visit any available dining hall.

The dining halls will be open seven days per week during winter quarter. Visit the R&DE website for dining hall locations and hours and to purchase a meal plan.

In addition, the Axe and Palm will be open for to-go meals and the Market at Munger and the EVGR Marketplace offer a variety of pre-made meals, produce and other necessities. Save time by using our Food ToGo pre-order app. The Munger Market offers free curbside pick up or delivery. Café and market hours are listed on the website.

Furniture

While we recognize that some residents may not need or want every item of furniture provided in the Graduate Student Housing apartments, as a matter of policy outlined in your Residence Agreement, we cannot remove or modify the furniture inventory in our units to accommodate individual preferences, with exceptions only for residents who are pregnant and need a different bed or chair than what is provided or for those with approved accommodations from the Office of Accessible Education (OAE). For further details and information on filing an OAE request, please visit the following website: http://oae.stanford.edu.

Cleaning Kits

R&DE Student Housing has provided cleaning kits for each resident in a shared apartment. You should have received this kit at check-in. Please contact your R&DE Housing Front Desk if you did not receive one.

Room Condition Forms

Please remember to fill out an online Room Condition Form (RCF) within 14 days of moving in. Room Condition Forms help you avoid being billed for damages when you vacate a space. If you are not able to submit your Room Condition Form online, please contact your R&DE Housing Front Desk.

You’ve Got Mail!

For information about how to receive mail and deliveries, please visit the Mail and Packages in Graduate Housing webpage.

For students living in EVGR, the EVGR Package Center will be open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Be Prepared

Emergency Preparedness

Your safety is our priority. R&DE has developed safety protocols for a wide range of potential emergencies on campus or in your residence. Click here to learn how you can be best prepared.

Maintenance Assistance

For maintenance problems such as burnt-out ceiling lights or a clogged drain, complete an online repair request at fixit.stanford.edu. You can check the status of a Fix-It request by contacting your R&DE Housing Front Desk.

If you have a maintenance emergency after-hours, please call the After-Hours Maintenance Emergency Line at (650) 725-1602 for assistance.

When you submit a FixIt request or call for after-hours assistance, members from R&DE Maintenance Operations & Capital Projects will come to your apartment to complete the requested work. They will wear a face covering and will knock prior to entering. To facilitate physical distancing while they are completing the work, we ask that you either confine yourself to another room in your apartment or stand in the hallway outside of your apartment door while they complete the work.

Lockouts and Lost Keys

It’s best to keep your key on hand at all times. If you find yourself locked out of your apartment or room during the business day, stop by your R&DE Housing Front Desk to check out a spare key. Outside of business hours, call the CARE team at (650) 725-1602 for assistance. The first lockout is free, while the second and subsequent lockouts will cost $45.

You are responsible for the keys issued to you. If a key is lost, the locks will be changed and your account will be charged a fee to cover the replacement lock cores and keys. Please report all lost keys immediately to your R&DE Housing Front Desk. When the front desk is closed, report all lost keys to our after-hours hotline (650) 725-1602.

Safety Comes First

Unfortunately, Stanford is not immune to thefts. Please take the following precautions to protect yourself and your belongings:

  • Lock your door and your windows when you leave your apartment. If you are having trouble with either of these being secured, please submit a fix-it online or contact your R&DE Housing Front Desk.
  • Ensure that the door to your residence is secure after you enter. If you notice that the entry door will not secure, please submit a fix-it online or contact your R&DE Housing Front Desk.
  • Do not leave personal belongings in common areas or in plain sight.
  • Do not allow strangers to tailgate into the residence.
  • Do not prop open doors.
  • See Something; Say Something! Call the Department of Public Safety immediately to report a crime or suspicious activity:
    • Emergency:  911 (cell phone or room phone) or 9-911 (campus phone)
    • Non-Emergency (24/7): (650) 329-2413 (Stanford and Palo Alto only)
    • 911 Emergency Telephone Tower (Blue Tower)

If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to your R&DE Housing Front Desk or to the Department of Public Safety at (650) 723-9633 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or police@stanford.edu.
