Parking enforcement continues during holiday season, winter closure

In continued support of campus health and safety and the management of non-affiliated visitors, 24/7 parking enforcement on the main campus will continue during the upcoming holiday season and the university’s winter closure with three exceptions:

  • Thursday, Nov. 26,
  • Friday, Dec. 25,
  • Friday, Jan. 1.

On those dates, parking enforcement in commuter, resident, and visitor spaces on the main campus will be suspended and permits will not be required to park.

At all other times, including nights and weekends, all vehicles are required to have an active permit to park on the main campus.

Please note that parking in special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and special-permit-only spaces, are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Obtain a permit if you need to park

Stanford affiliates, residents, and sponsored commuters can use the online ordering system to obtain a monthly (long-term) or daily (short-term) parking permit.

Stanford visitors

Please note that posted time limits in visitor parking areas still apply and that hourly visitor parking spaces have been temporarily removed from the campus core. Stanford visitors, including those visiting residents, have two options:

Keep your vehicle and bike secure

Theft in parking and bicycle areas has been reported on Stanford’s main campus and at Stanford Redwood City. When parking, please take steps to secure your bike or vehicle and its contents.

In an attempt to prevent vehicle theft, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends the following:

  • Always take your keys with you, close your windows and lock the doors, and park in well-lit areas.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially where they can be seen, or leave the area while your vehicle is running.
  • Avoid leaving your vehicle unattended for long periods of time, especially in publicly accessible areas.

Stanford’s Department of Public Safety reminds the campus community that if you “see something, say something.” Immediately report suspicious activity by dialing 9‑1‑1 or 650.329.2413, which is the non-emergency, 24/7 number.
