Free financial wellness coaching through the Mind Over Money program

Free financial coaching is just one component of the Mind Over Money program, which aims to help students, postdocs, and recent alumni feel less stressed about money, more aware of the internal and external factors that influence their financial well-being, and more confident and resilient in managing their current and future finances.

When you think about your overall wellness, you might picture your physical, emotional and mental state. At Stanford, we care about your financial wellness, too.

Through the Mind Over Money program, you can take advantage of free financial coaching to strengthen money management skills and hit all of your financial goals.

The Mind Over Money mission is to help students, postdocs, and recent alumni feel less stressed about money, more aware of the internal and external factors that influence your financial well-being, and more confident and resilient in managing your current and future finances. We’re here to support you in flourishing as you navigate financial life on the farm today, and as you plan for how money will shape your desired future.

“Through free coaching from financial professionals, our hope is to reduce the financial worries our students carry and increase their focus on their academic journey during their time at Stanford,” said Angela Amarillas, associate director of the Mind Over Money Program. “We want students to feel empowered to manage finances with confidence and have greater faith in their ability to flourish.”

How the program works

Browse the profiles of nearly 40 volunteer, financial coaches to find one that best suits your needs. Our dedicated coaches offer perspectives from a variety of backgrounds and industries and are ready to meet with you on the topics that matter most.

Topics often include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Reducing debt
  • Navigating conversations about money with loved ones
  • Understanding taxes
  • Starting a Roth IRA
  • Managing money
  • Investing for the future

Remember, you set the topic – you can bring both problems and questions to your coach and they will help you develop skills and behaviors to improve.

Coaching sessions are 30 or 60 minutes, offered by phone or on Zoom, and although students find that one or two appointments are generally enough, there may be flexibility based on your preference and the availability of coaches.
