Conference on defense research to be held at Stanford

STANFORD -- Stanford's Sponsored Projects Office and the Office of the Dean of Research will host a half-day conference on basic research funded by the Department of Defense, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 22.

The conference, featuring top officials from the Department of Defense, is designed primarily for faculty and graduate students, and will address the following:

Speakers will include Jasper Lupo, research director of Defense Research and Engineering at the Pentagon; Helmut Hellwig, director of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research; Gerald J. Iafrate, director of the Army Research Office; Dwight Duston, science and technology director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization; and Debra Hughes, deputy director of the Office of Naval Research's Special Programs Office.

Faculty from other California colleges and universities are welcome. Advance registration is required. The event will be held in the Oak West Room of Tresidder Union.
