Lecture on meaning of recent Kobe quake for Bay Area

STANFORD -- Anne S. Kiremidjian, professor of civil engineering and director of the John A Blume Earthquake Engineering Center, will give a free public lecture titled "The Power of the Earth: Kobe, Japan Earthquake, January 17, 1995," on Friday, April 21.

In the lecture, which will take place from noon-1 p.m. in the Terman Engineering Center Auditorium on campus, Kiremidjian will present an overview of the characteristics of the earthquake and its effect on one of the major metropolitan areas in Japan, and will discuss the serious implications that it has for residents in the Bay Area.

The Department of Civil Engineering is sponsoring this talk in honor of Earth Day 1995.
