Team members to discuss Palm Drive reconstruction

STANFORD -- Three members of the team that worked on reconstruction of Palm Drive will discuss the project in an illustrated free public lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Oak East Lounge at Tresidder Union.

Landscape architect Tom Richman, engineer David Richwood, and project manager Mike Kuntz will talk about the “Miracle on Palm Drive: 100 Years in the Making.”

They will discuss how history and function came together last summer in the reconstruction of Stanford's main entry road, including installation of granite curbs specified a century ago by Frederick Law Olmsted, which helped solve a long-standing drainage problem.

University archivist Maggie Kimball will add historical perspective.

The program is sponsored by the Stanford Historical Society.
