McNamara to work on security for South African elections

STANFORD -- Hoover Institution Research Fellow Joseph D. McNamara has accepted a position as a technical consultant on security as part of the United Nation's mission to ensure the first free elections in South Africa in April.

McNamara, a former San Jose and Kansas City police chief, said he will continue his research on drug policy while in South Africa until early May.

"It's an honor to play a small part in working for the peaceful end to apartheid through democratic elections," he said.
