Stanford voice mail unavailable this weekend

STANFORD -- Stanford will be without voice mail services the weekend of Aug. 29-30 while Communication Services upgrades the system.

During this period, which extends from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, callers cannot leave voice mail messages and users cannot retrieve messages in their mailboxes.

According to Jan Thomson, director for communication services, the change will allow Stanford to meet the increasing demand for voice mailboxes as well as enhance existing voice mail features.

Voice mailboxes will work the same on the new system as they do on the current system. The voice mail system telephone number (3-0000), and mailbox numbers, passwords and messages will remain the same.

Communication Services is requesting that users remove any unnecessary saved messages from their mailboxes prior to Aug. 29. This will help the department speed up the conversion portion of the upgrade.

Communication Services has sent department STARs (Stanford Telecommunication Activity Representatives) information describing the change for members of their departments. For more information, employees should contact their de partment STAR or call Communication Services at 5-HELP.
