Stanford student identified in Indiana murder-suicide

STANFORD -- Stanford University officials have confirmed that Andreas Josef Drexler, who shot and killed an Indiana University student and then took his own life Thursday night, April 23, was a registered graduate student in computer science at Stanford.

Indiana University police in Bloomington, Ind., said Friday that Drexler, 29, shot and killed Susan M. Clements, a former girlfriend, and shot and critically wounded another Indiana University student, Steven L. Molen, who had tried to intercede.

Drexler killed himself after shooting the others, Indiana officials said. (An Indiana University news release is attached.)

Stanford Police Chief Marvin Herrington said his department was cooperating with Indiana University by locating next-of-kin and collecting Drexler's personal belongings for safekeeping.

Drexler had no criminal record with the Stanford Police Department.
