Jazz concert series kicks off Sunday in Campbell Recital Hall
The Second Sunday Jazz Series returns to Stanford this Sunday with a concert by the David Friesen Trio at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Recital Hall.
The series, which began in 2000, is presented by the Stanford Jazz Workshop, a nonprofit organization celebrating 30 years of jazz education and concerts.
Of the trio, Jim Ferguson wrote in Jazz Times: "Bassist David Friesen, pianist Randy Porter and drummer Alan Jones attract your attention with consummate musicianship, creativity and finesse."
Autumn Quarter also features concerts by the Brazilian vocalist Claudia Villela, who will perform with her quartet Nov. 10, and vocalist Shanna Carlson, who will perform Dec. 8. Both concerts start at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall.
Tickets are $20; $18 for seniors, students and Palo Alto Jazz Alliance members; and $5 for Stanford students. To purchase tickets, go to the Stanford Ticket Office in Tresidder Union, call (650) 725-2787 or visit the web at www.ticketweb.com.
