Stanford declares support for Palo Alto Library bond measure

Stanford University announced today its endorsement of Measure D, the library bond measure, on the Nov. 5 ballot in Palo Alto. The $49 million bond measure calls for the renovation of the Mitchell Park Library and Community Center and the Palo Alto Children's Library. The renovated facilities at Mitchell Park also would house an after-school learning/study center for students.

"We are pleased to support this important community initiative," said Gordon Earle, vice president for public affairs. "Improved library and community service facilities will benefit everyone who lives in Palo Alto, including many Stanford faculty, staff and their families."

Stanford joins the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce, the Palo Alto League of Women Voters, Hewlett-Packard Co. and many others who have endorsed the initiative. The measure must be approved by a two-thirds majority of Palo Alto voters to be enacted.
